Paul Quéveau...

Paul Quéveau, boss of retractable metal roof firm Heuliez, said: "In 2006, soft-tops and hard-tops split the worldwide convertible market 50-50. However, in the next five to 10 years, 20 per cent will be soft-tops and 80 per cent hard-tops." BMW is the latest maker to switch, opting for a metal roof over a fabric hood on its 3-Series cabrio.

Our pictures of the bright orange show star were caught on a digital video camera, as the car was wheeled out for senior Ford employees. They show how the company has beefed up styling and performance to square up to VW"s slick new Golf GTI and the wild Vauxhall Astra VXR before the three fight it out for hot hatch honours later this year.

The C63 AMG is the quickest small saloon ever from the three-pointed star. Boasting 457bhp, the 6.3-litre V8 unit"s acceleration is blistering, with 0-62mph taking only 4.5 seconds.

The existing models...

The existing models have been praised for their modern design, and the saloon version continues the trend; the extended rear end is well integrated, with a distinctive upward kick leading to the bootlid.

The eyes of the motoring...

The eyes of the motoring world might be focused on Detroit over the second weekend of 2009, but in Japan, car manufacturers and tuners alike gather at the huge Makuhari Messe complex just outside Tokyo to celebrate the very best that the local customisers have to offer.

Described as Japanò€™s answer to the SEMA tuning and performance car show, it"sÒ  actually the third biggest tuner and customiser show after Germanyò€™s Essen show.

The family resemblance...

The family resemblance is clear from the newcomer"s beefy bodykit, with a huge air dam in the bumper, along with widened wheelarches, 18-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels and a roof spoiler. The looks are inspired by the Fiesta Rallye Concept, which was first seen at the 2002 British Motor Show.

And the attention isn"t reserved for the exterior styling. Inside, the car has been kitted out much as a production model would be, with exclusive leather sports seats, RS-badged dials and a funky racing steering wheel.

The Fiesta has been...

The Fiesta has been given some real Verve! A week after Auto Express revealed the first official images of the new Ford supermini, the car giant has released these detailed photographs of the model both inside and out.

Although bosses are calling this the Verve concept, we can reveal it will turn into the next small car, which is due here next year. Ford has yet to decide whether to continue with the Fiesta name, but either way, the newcomer will become the most exci÷ ting model in the supermini’s 30-year history.
